This winter intensive focuses on learning the fundamental tools and concepts of Contact Improvisation and utilizing them in choreography.
Over two days, students will learn the building blocks of contact, create choreographic studies, learn how to take the methods of contact and apply these skills to both improvised scores and set choreography.
Students will have the opportunity to create choreographic studies and synthesize all they have learned in our final jam.

DAY TWO

- Practical and creative uses in choreography, group score 1:00-2:30
- Lunch, video watching 12:30-1:00
- JAM, bringing it all together 2:30-3:30

INSTRUCTOR
JENNIFER WOOD
Jennifer Wood is a choreographer, performer, teacher, and costume designer. She has performed, had her work presented or had residencies in Las Vegas, San Diego, Jacob’s Pillow in Becket, MA, Atlanta, Austin and Houston. Jennifer is the founder and director of Suchu Dance, a postmodern dance/theater performing group. Jennifer is four time recipient of HAA Individual artist grant and two Performing Arts Residencies from Diverse Works and is the founder of three performing spaces in Houston. Jennifer has been teaching and working with dancers to experience movement for over 20 years. Through her investigative process of choreography, Jennifer asks questions and leads dancers further into the process of their own movement discovery.
INSTRUCTOR
LORI YUILL
Lori Yuill is an independent choreographer, performer and teaching artist. She has taught and performed throughout the United States and internationally in NYC, DC, Paraguay, Argentina, Brazil, Guatemala, and Houston, and she toured with Sara Rudner to Ireland and Boston. Lori's teaching and choreography have been influenced by the many wonderful choreographers she has performed with including Sara Rudner (NYC), Anneke Hansen (NYC), Suchu Dance (Houston), Stephanie Miracle Dances (DC), and Milka Djordjevich (NYC). She grew up in the greater Houston area but spent a large part of the last decade on the East Coast. Lori holds an MFA in dance from Sarah Lawrence College. Lori's class challenges both the brain and the body. She enjoys those little brain explosions that lead to an expanded movement palette.
