Through our series of free DANCE VIDEO NIGHTS, we will be screening for
you some of what we consider to be the best “dance for camera” video work being made by postmodern choreographers
from around the world. See how these artists’ movement ideas are taken
to a whole other level when they are given the ability to control such cinematic variables as time, viewer vantage point,
and split-second changes of scene location, lighting, and soundscape. Still enjoying
the Suchu-provided popcorn and beer, we close out each Dance Video Night with a casual, open conversation led by Suchu staff
and artists, sharing our impressions (and, of course, listening to yours) on what we each observed, perceived, liked or even
disliked about that night’s video work.
Bring
yourself and a friend; we’ll provide the beer, popcorn and discussion.
There is no need to RSVP to attend any

"Edges to the Center" (2006), created by Suchu Dance directors Jennifer Wood and Louie Saletan, will be
shown from 6:30 to 6:50 pm and features performances by Catalina Gutierrez, Kara Ary, and Mechelle Flemming. The intimacy
of the choreography, of the one-room setting, and of how the video itself was shot is what makes this work most
memorable. The alternating use of silence and of an original musical score composed by Wood herself also lends a fragile,
ethereal feel to the dancers' interactions.

"Another Kind of Beauty" (2007) is by Russian postmodern dance pioneer Sasha Kukin, and will be screened
from 7:00 to 7:20 pm. This film beautifully traces an afternoon in the lives of three women, visitors to an art gallery,
as they shed the posturing and pretenses of the overly serious and regimented adult world that surrounds them, in favor of
rediscovering and releasing their childlike, uninhibited, free spirits within. This is a remarkable film, one you
won't want to miss.
